WE have an apple tree in our yard that used to produce apples. How come it has stopped?

The apple tree was here when we moved in. It produces Crab apples. We cut it back last year hoping that would help, but it looks like we’re going to get no apples again this year. It blossoms, but then the buds of the apples die and fall off the tree. 3 years ago we had about 150 apples, last year we had 3……what are we doing wrong?
Is there anything that I can do now to help it produce apples this year?
I live in a very damp climate. BUt that never used to be a problem
