Much work goes into developing a new video game. Many people dedicate years to developing exciting and challenging games, including animators, writers, code specialists and many others. Video game testers begin work early in the process of game development to assist in Quality Assurance.
The only way to ensure that the developers have no missed anything is by having the game played through all of its possible courses and outcomes. It is the video game testers job to spot any bugs, glitches or problems with graphics. If you have a love for video games and a console, you too can become a video game tester! In order to ensure that a game is thoroughly tested, some video game testers must be highly experienced but there is a market for beginner testers as well since beginners will make mistakes that more experienced players will not. Also, be aware that being a video game tester does not mean that you will play games nonstop all day. There is more to it than that. Like any job, it requires professionalism.
What are the expectations of those working in video game testing ? You will receive a video game in early stage of development. It may possibly be the “alpha” or first stage or it may be in later stages of development. Along with the game, they will provide a description and instructions on what to look for and any feedback they would like to receive. Attention to detail is very important when you play.
You may discover tiny glitches in graphics or a bigger issue in which the game does not allow you to do something that it should. You will have to write a coherent, understandable description of the problem which may take several paragraphs. Of course, good grammar and proper spelling are expected. So now that you know what it takes to be a video game tester, it’s time to get out there and start the job of your dreams!
